Leanne Hoffman Central London Psychotherapist
My work and career are focused on improving the mental and emotional health of people. I have 17 years’ experience, as a psychodynamic psychotherapist and am based at the Farringdon Practice located in Central London. I also work in the field of organisational development as a consultant, trainer and coach. In 2021 I qualified as a psychotherapist for medical trials of psilocybin.
I studied at WPF Counselling and Psychotherapy, graduating with a Postgraduate Diploma and MA in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a registered and accredited member of the BACP - British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, the largest professional body in its field in the UK. It ensures all members are appropriately trained, qualified and adhere to a strict code of ethics.
In addition, I am a partner at Healthy Minds at Work which helps organisations develop the mental and emotional wellbeing of their employees with a focus on improving resilience to work related challenges. My work on medical trials has been done in junction with Compass Pathways. The trials are researching new treatments to mental health illnesses like treatment resistant depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
You can find me on It's Good To Talk (BACP website), The Counselling Directory, The Well Doing Directory and The Farringdon Practice. I am registered to work with most Health Insurers except BUPA.
How I work
I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy. This concentrates on the root cause of distress and through understanding, comes change. It is rooted in the Freudian principle of finding out more about the unconscious processes that drive behaviour. For example, if someone keeps finishing relationships despite being desperate to find ‘the one’, psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on exploring the past to explain why this keeps recurring to help stop the pattern. Over the years I have adapted my style through study and practising new modalities and concepts.
I am also a coach, trainer and clinical trial therapist researching new mental health interventions and believe that these different roles feed into each other and enhance my approach. I use a wide range of techniques and approaches developed throughout my professional career including body work, breathing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, existential therapy, coaching, training, neuroscience, unconscious bias and heuristics and positive psychology. I tailor my approach to each client based on what I think is the most effective. However, my principal focus is on helping people explore the unconscious as this works at a deeper level and therefore the results are more significant and enduring.
